A virtual tour of T-Hub for entrepreneurs

With NASSCOM predicting the establishment of 11,500 tech-startups by 2020, employing over 250k people, in their report – Tech Start-ups in India: A Bright Future - India’s entrepreneurial stint certainly looks promising. One of the biggest push is coming from T-Hub – Telangana’s home grown tech-startup incubator that is playing a catalyst’s role in facilitating the dreams of wantrepreneurs and ensuring sunny days for the Indian start-up ecology.

What is T-Hub?

It is a public/private joint venture between the government of Telangana and three frontline academic institutes namely the Indian Institute of Technology – Hyderabad (IIT-H), Indian School of Business (ISB) and National Academy of Legal Studies and Research (NALSAR). T-Hub was founded in July 2015 with a vision of enabling a robust ecosystem of technology based start-ups in Telangana.

Working @ the grassroots level

In order to strengthen the ecosystem of start-ups, the government of Telangana has conceptualised and initiated a program called the ‘Telangana Academy of Skill and Knowledge’ (TASK). This body aims to train graduates with essential skills to make them more employable. This initiative further enables a collaboration between the govt. of Telangana, academic institutions and industries to upskill the youth of state.

The prime initiatives of TASK include:

  • Programmes for graduates to develop soft skills.
  • Programmes on Faculty Development.
  • Collaborations with JNTU and HYSEA to nurture product innovation.
  • Collaboration with ISB for Technology Entrepreneurship Programmes.
  • Collaborations with Google, Infosys, Oracle, Autodesk, IBM, Microsoft and SAP for Technology Skilling programmes.
  • Collaborations with NIT Warangal, IIT Hyderabad and BITS Pilani to develop other programmes.
  • Implementing ESDM scheme.
  • Co-ordinating training programmes for government departments.
  • Successful completion of school studies.
  • Various e-learning programmes.

Meet the Directors

  • Jayesh Ranjan – Topper of the IAS 1992 batch, Jayesh is the secretary of IT under the Electronics and Communications department of the government of Telangana.
  • B V R Mohan Reddy – Founder of Cyient and an elected Chairman of NASSCOM in 2015.
  • CP Gurnani – CEO and MD of Tech Mahindra, Gurnani played a crucial role in the merger between Mahindra Satyam and Tech Mahindra.
  • Sashi Reddi – A business leader, tech-entrepreneur and an angel investor, Shashi also runs SRI Capital, a seed stage venture fund.
  • Ajit Rangnekar – He is the Dean and a governing member of the Indian School of Business.
  • P J Narayanan – A professor and the present Director of IIT Hyderabad. He worked with the DRDO previously as the Head of Computer Vision and VR at the centre for Artificial Intelligence.
  • Faizan Mustafa – He is the Vice-Chancellor of the National Academy of Legal Studies and Research and previous Founder and VC of the National Law University, Orissa.
  • Raman Kumar – Founder and former Chairman, CEO and Director of MModal Inc.
  • Srini Raju – Founder and MD of Peepul Capital, that manages more than $1000m of institutional and general partner’s capital.
  • Rajendra Srivastava – Dean of the Indian School of Business and the Novartis professor of innovation and marketing strategy.

Being a part of LAB 32

Lab 32 is a start-up breeding zone where ideas are conceptualised, nurtured and executed with support from industry leaders. It acts as an enabler to collaborate all the stakeholders of the start-up ecosystem. There are three key benefits that entrepreneurs can derive from Lab 32 which are through partnerships, programs and services.

Partnerships – Entrepreneurs can benefit by partnering with organizations or individuals across verticals to fast track the time to market and make their products market-ready. Following are the various forms of partnerships:

  • Ecosystem – Entrepreneurs can partner with leading organizations such as NASSCOM, TiE, F6S and iSPIRIT to incubate their start-up.
  • Corporate – This group consists of CIOs who can help with their vast experience and business acumen to make products market-ready.
  • Incubators and accelerators – – With as many as 23 incubators and accelerators within the T-Hub, it would allow budding entrepreneurs to go for their first round of selection.
  • Market Access Partners – Through this, T-Hub would offer international tech companies a smooth access to other key markets outside India.
  • Investors – – With a strong network of 20 investors and counting, T-Hub would facilitate the chances of getting an investment.

Programmes – – T-Hub enables new businesses to grow under the mentorship of market leaders. Through this programme, the market leaders will mentor the incubatees for one year. Incubatees can get a 4-hour access to these leaders per month. Moreover, there are workshops held by mentors in their respective fields of expertise.

Services –  Entrepreneurs can get word-class services from various service providers who are all part of this huge network. The list consists of legal professionals, digital marketers, chartered accountants, company secretaries, investment bankers, IT experts and financial advisors. Moreover, these professionals also offer a 50% off on their services.

Introducing Catalyst

Situated at the IIIT-H Campus, Gachibowli, Catalyst is a massive 70k sqft building which is entirely dedicated to entrepreneurship. It aims to bring the entire start-up community comprising of entrepreneurs, investors, business leaders and mentors to come together and collaborate.
